Cv Joints Noise When Turning
Most cars have four or more cv joints which are used to transfer engine power to the wheels.
Cv joints noise when turning. Over time the rubber boots of the cv joints can become cracked, torn, or otherwise compromised. One of the most common and most noticeable symptoms of a bad or failing cv axle shaft assembly is an audible clicking noise when turning. Drive straight ahead until you hear the noise.
They can also bind up on acceleration and when turning tightly. And as soon as you start turning left, the noise starts. Depending on the seriousness of the joint’s condition, you may need to replace the whole shaft assembly in addition to replacing the cv joint.
If any boot gets torn and leaks grease, it has to be replaced. If thats not it, it could be the wheels out of balance, road noise, trans problem to name a few. In some cases, the problem may exist beyond just your cv joint.
If it is a humming or whining noise it is most likely a wheel bearing. Now, i have 28,000 miles on it and the original noise is back. Sometimes faint, sometimes very noticeable, but constant while turning or accelerating.
If you put off replacing them for too long, the bearings will fall out. If so, you might have a worn out or damaged cv joint. Here is how to check.
Sometimes it’ll only occur when turning left or right. Best way to check the cv is to drive on flat, dry surface with all windows unrolled, while driving make slow steady turns left and right and then more drastic turns, if you hear a clicking noise the cv's are bad. The clicking noise you describe is almost certainly down to the cvj.
