Cv Axle Leaking Fluid
The purpose of the axle seal is to keep transmission fluid from leaking.
Cv axle leaking fluid. A cv joint axle is meant to turn and flex (hence cv = constant velocity) at the joints and allow the stiff portions (the axle ends and middle) to stay stiff. The half shaft or cv joint has now fluid in it, there is a grease in that joint so that is not your source of a leak. A car axle seal is the part that seals the connection of a cv axle (driveshaft) to the transmission or rear differential.
The flexible joint in a cv axle, which accommodates wheel movement, is covered in a rubber boot that is referred to as the cv boot. An axle seal is the part of the vehicle that connects the axle to the rear differential, or the transmission. Constant velocity axles, commonly referred to as cv axles, transfer power from your engine’s transmission to the wheels and propel the vehicle forward.
The out of balance or wheel rotation sound began after an extended trip to wisconsin, on the return trip. (just to note, i flushed the transmission fluid at the time and there was nothing concerning about the old fluid. Axle, brakes, and suspension removed.
It prevents fluid from leaking out of the transmission or differential housing as the cv axle rotates when the vehicle is in motion. An axle seal is the part of the vehicle that connects the axle to the rear differential, or the transmission. In some vehicles, the axle shaft seal also helps to keep the axle shaft in proper alignment with the transmission.
Hey guys my name is daniel just had a question to ask. I don’t know how similar your avalon is to my camry, but replacing the whole cv axles yourself is actually a very cheap and easy job. Common signs of a leaking cv boot.
Attached is a video i took after i pulled the intermediate shaft out (i plan on replacing that as well because i could never get the cv axle off of it). Took back to dealer and they diagnosed as an axle shaft seal failure. You could have an output seal that has failed adn that could put in that situation.
