Cv Axle Boot Replacement
How much does a cv boot replacement cost?
Cv axle boot replacement. The axle assembly has to be disassembled in order to replace a boot. To do the outer boot on the 2008, i had to remove the inner end and boot. Without proper lubrication, a cv joint will not last long.
Usually a vibrating cv axle will need to be replaced. The vibrations may be a result of moisture or debris getting into the cv joint and causing damage. To do it properly on my 2008, i had to remove the axle to reboot because only one end of the axle is able to be disassembled.
This spent inboard boot only revealed itself with a turn of the axle. You'd then replace it and the boot, lubricate the new and old joint with fresh grease. However, there are companies that offer a lower cv axle repair price such as yourmechanic, offering replacement services for as low as $140 to $974.
Additionally, a boot that is leaking may lead to a cv joint failure. On average, replacing a cv boot, which in most cases will mean replacing the axle/shaft, can be expensive since it is difficult to access. Consider the above, the only time it makes economic sense to replace a cv boot versus the cv axle is when you do the work yourself.
Cv axles have an inner joint and an outer joint. The peg will slide all the way in until the axle is flush against the housing. I would stay away from wrap around boots.
I’m not sure if the 2005 is the same way. Other reasons to replace a cv axle include excessive wear or damage in an accident or due to excessive rust. See the photo of a bad cv axle.
